The Grand Rapids-based leader in sustainable construction has changed its name.
Bazzani Building Group announced this week that it will change its name to Cella Building Company, which will be phased in over the next few weeks.
The name change comes about four years after the retirement of founder Guy Bazzani. Bazzani founded the Bazzani Building Group in 1996, becoming one of the first firms to focus exclusively on sustainable building practices.
“Guy has been a leader in sustainable construction for over 20 years,” said Heather Coyne, Cella Marketing Director. “It’s the same team, and since Gay retired, we’ve built on the foundation he laid.”
Cella is led by CEO Mike Coyne and President Peter Skornia.
Coyne said the company will remain committed to its customers and will maintain all the same principles that Bazzani has instilled during his two decades of leadership.
Cella is a term in Greek and Roman architecture for a room at the center of an influential building, which Coyne says “allows us to better represent ourselves as innovative and trusted leaders in our industry.”
Last year, the company completed its first net-zero carbon project at 730 Leonard St. NW. Former warehouse converted into 10 studios and 8 one bedroom apartments with 3,698 square feet of retail space. Cella corporate offices occupy most of the retail space.
Perhaps the most famous Bazzani project in Grand Rapids is the Kingsley Building in East Township.
