Caesar is the first operator to address its Ohio sports betting violations in public, and regulators are pleased with how the company handled the issue.
Caesars Sportsbook Received Violation Notice Ohio Casino Control Commission This comes just days after Ohio Sportsbook launched on January 1st. Betting on MGM and draft king Caesars also received a violation notice, but Caesars chose to waive its right to a hearing and address the committee at Wednesday’s meeting.
The company terminated its business relationship with a marketing affiliate nationwide because of the violation, according to a Caesars representative who attended the meeting.
Ohio Sports Betting Violations Details
There were two problems with the Caesars affiliate’s marketing message: the lack of a prominent RG message, and the use of “free” or “risk-free” when describing the promotion as requiring bettors to invest their own money in order to get the promotion.
Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Compliance jeff hendricks told the committee that the affiliate failed to abide by the agreement to obtain approval from Caesars before putting the content live.

OCCC: Response is ‘exemplary’ compliance
Ending relationships with problematic affiliates is “the kind of pattern we want to see when that happens,” ChairmanJune Taylor Say.
Executive Director Matt Schuler Agreed, referring to affiliate marketers as the “weakest link” in the advertising chain:
“If every licensee followed the path that Mr. Hession just laid out for Caesars Sportsbook, I believe 90 to 95 percent of the problems we’re trying to solve would be corrected,” Schuler said. “…If other sportsbooks do the same, we may not have to revisit it. So we believe that this is a real solution and, as the chairman said, a compliant model.”

Schuler kicked off his sports betting update by discussing a press conference from University of DaytonMen’s Basketball Head Coach, anthony grant.
Grant didn’t specifically mention sports betting, but cited recent laws that could change the landscape of college sports and ask fans to remember what’s best for college players.
“It makes me sick when we have people who are self-centered and attack kids because of their own agenda.”
Schuler said the committee had a responsibility to focus on the issue and could use social media to help. The OCCC can involuntarily exclude punters from accessing legal sportsbooks in the state.
Wynn gets sports betting license
Wynn Gaming obtained an online sports betting license at Wednesday’s meeting.
According to OCCC records dated Jan. 6, this marks the final approval of a sportsbook that submitted an application last year.
