CARROLL — Villagers clearly want a downtown coffee shop, and June Queen, co-owner of Carroll Cup Coffee House, says business has been good since its grand opening on Dec. 3.
“I think overall it’s been very well-received by the community,” she said. “We’ve had tremendous community support. We’ve been very, very busy and we’ve had a lot of positive comments. Everything has been very fortunate.”
Customers can find typical café drinks at 75 E. Canal St., most of which are espressos.
“We make espresso,” Queen said. “We serve lattes, cappuccinos, and we also have specialty drinks. And seasonal drinks. We also offer basic house blends, drip coffee, decaf coffee and regular drinks.”
Offers baked goods like cinnamon rolls. The queen said the cinnamon-colored character was particularly popular.
“The Cinnamon character was a huge hit,” Quinn said. “We couldn’t keep them in there. We sold a lot of them very quickly.”
The Queen and her husband Don own the café. She said the new business has been brewing for about a year.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” Quinn said. “We kind of fell for the building. I’m a member of the Carroll Regional Historical Society, so I love history. We live in a historic house and I’ve always been fascinated by the building.”
The building is over 100 years old and was once a hardware store. It was used as a storage room for about 30 years before Queens purchased it. They did a lot of the renovation work themselves.
This is Queens’ first foray into business ownership. June Queen also works in data management at home and is a registered nurse. Don Queen retires from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) business. Queens has four part-time employees and hopes to add a fifth.
Carroll Cup Coffee House is open Monday to Saturday from 6am to 3pm
Queen said she may work longer hours if business demands in the next few months or so. She also said she would open the building after hours for meetings and more.
The company also operates on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok.
