There’s been a lot of talk lately about celebrities using the type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic to lose weight.
Chelsea Handler is now sharing that she’s such a celebrity, even though she didn’t realize it at first.
In a recent talk on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Handler said her “anti-aging doctor just leaves it to whoever.”
“I didn’t even know I was involved,” Handler recalls. “She said, ‘If you want to lose five pounds, that’s fine.'”
Ozempic is a quick weight loss drug that has gone viral through social media. But this has led to complaints that it is causing a shortage of those who need it as part of their type 2 diabetes treatment.
Handler said on the podcast that she injected herself with the drug after returning from a vacation in Spain. A few days later, she had lunch with a friend who noticed that she was currently taking Ozempic and therefore did not intend to eat.
“I was like, ‘I’m kind of sick, too,’ but I just got back from Spain and I was jet-lagged,” recalls Handler.
When her friend asked her if she was sure she wasn’t taking Ozempic, Handler told her, no, she was taking semaglutide, she said.
Her friend then told her that semaglutide was the same drug as Ozempic, Handler said, adding that she stopped taking it because she believed it was “irresponsible.”
“I’m an irresponsible drug user, but I’m not going to take my diabetes meds,” Handler said. “I tried, but I wouldn’t do that. That’s not for me.”
