CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Billy Packer, an Emmy Award-winning college basketball broadcaster who covered 34 Final Four games for NBC and CBS, died Thursday night. He is 82 years old.
Pacjer’s son, Mark, told The Associated Press that his father had been hospitalized in Charlotte for the past three weeks with some physical problems and eventually died of kidney failure.
Parker’s broadcasting career coincided with the development of college basketball. From 1975 to 2008, he served as an analyst or commentator for each Final Four.
