According to our NBC 5 affiliate, lawmakers are seeking to legalize sports betting in the state, led by more than half of the state.
The Vermont Legislature’s Sports Betting Research Committee will reportedly begin research in August 2022 and recommend legalization in the state.
Lawmakers reportedly indicated that a bill could be drafted early next week and would place sports betting under the jurisdiction of the Department of Liquor and Lotteries.
There could be two to six sportsbooks in the bidding process to find the best one for the state, the report said.
“We’re hoping we’ll be on our feet by the end of the year so we can take advantage of the NFL playoffs,” VT Liquor and Lottery Commissioner Wendy Knight told NBC 5.
