Here’s every sports team social media manager’s worst nightmare: posting after a horrible loss.
The Cowboys were waiting for such an effort after beating the 49ers 19-12 in Sunday’s divisional round, with quarterback Dak Prescott struggling with two interceptions and passing for just 206 yards. Even with that sidewalk, few could have predicted that the team’s own Twitter account would share the specially worded tweet hours after the score was finalized.
“Dak Prescott fumbles twice in narrow loss to 49ers in a game the Cowboys would have had a chance to win had they not spoken to themselves,” tweeted wrote, with a link to the game recap.
To be fair, Prescott accepted responsibility for the loss after the game and was quoted in the story of being responsible for both turnovers: “Those are things you can’t have, not in the playoffs. Not when you and when such a team plays [and] on the way. no excuse. These are 100% mine. “
Still, it’s an odd thing to share for an official team account after the season just ended. People on Twitter — including Cowboys fans and those who find joy in their pain — were quick to raise eyebrows at the tweet and have their own clever responses online. Here are some of the best.
