Jan 21 (Reuters) – Twitter Inc has about 2,300 active employees, Elon Musk said in a tweet on Saturday.
CNBC reported on Friday that Twitter’s full-time workforce has dwindled to about 1,300 active employees, including fewer than 550 full-time engineers.
About 75 of the company’s 1,300 employees are on furlough, including about 40 engineers, CNBC said, citing internal records.
Billionaire Musk tweeted in response to CNBC’s tweet: “This note is incorrect. Twitter has approximately 2,300 active employees.”
“Hundreds of employees and thousands of contractors remain committed to trust and safety,” Musk added.
Musk took over Twitter in October and quickly made a series of product and organizational changes. The company, which launched its Twitter-verified Blue check-mark as a paid service, also laid off about 50% of its staff.
