South Bend Lyric Opera: The Gift

South Bend Lyric Opera will host its second production for the 2022-2023 season. The Gift is a new contemporary opera, performed in English by the poised Paul Herman, a revival of O. Henry’s Gift of the Magi ) modern retelling of . It tells the story of two young lovers struggling with an uncertain future, whose unwavering commitment to each other inevitably wins their father’s approval, and serves as a reminder of the importance of unconditional love and the warmth of a shared bond.
Bradyn Debysingh (“Boy”) will play the title role, with Hammen and Victoria Schemenauer playing dual roles as “Girl.” The supporting role of “Mother” will be played by the duo of Eleni Taluzek and Emily Sullivan, while the role of “Father” will be played by Shayne Piles. The performers will be accompanied by local ensemble Ensemble Concept/21 conducted by Juan-Carlos Alarcon.

Trapped on a train with a killer, the passengers rely on Detective Hercule Poirot to identify the killer.
