Steube represents Florida’s 17th District, which is located in the southwestern part of the state and includes the cities of Sarasota and Venice.
“It was horrific to hear about @RepGregSteube’s accident earlier today,” said Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla. wrote on twitter.
Steube is a military veteran and former state legislator who was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019. He is a conservative and outspoken critic of President Biden, supported Investigating the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, co-sponsoring a bill to rehabilitate service members discharged for refusing a coronavirus vaccine, and opposing abortion rights “in any state of development.”
Steube has served on the Veterans Affairs, Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees of the House of Representatives and most recently named Fundraising Committee.
Steube served as an Airborne Infantry Officer and Judge Advocate, and also spent eight years in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate. He said he was inspired to join the military after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
