Nowadays, saturday night live It’s not at the center of the universe per se, but in an increasingly fragmented pop culture landscape, it’s probably the closest thing we have. Think about the lives touched by tonight’s episode — whether it’s people watching live or scanning water cooler feeds on Sunday mornings.Funny kids exclusively sleep outside (although that is changing!) to Very Online to dissect the show’s every move. For a show that sticks so firmly to its traditions and pacing, there’s an entire ecosystem that soaks up sketches and laughs like endless rain into paper cups.
But it’s 2023, and there are still so many saturday night live Can be done to reward fans. Maybe it’s something like an “anyone can host” contest, or an acknowledgment of the various viral campaigns that put Betty White on the show. Or dare I invoke the infamous “Carnival Live” in time?
Which brings us — in a roundabout way — to tonight’s host, Aubrey Plaza. This white lotus Star (and ex-April Ludgate) starred on NBC’s page and blew up auditions saturday night live Attended UBC early in her career; she also worked saturday night live Appeared as a design department intern in 2004 and 2005 as a background extra on the show’s classic holiday episode, hosted by Justin Timberlake. It’s a beautiful story, and I wish the show contained more of the underdog-to-actor trajectory.
tonight with my ex saturday night live Cast member Matthew Laurance mourns the loss of Cecily Strong. (Don’t we all?) Regarding her leaving the cast, he said: “It’s a huge void. I can’t express how much I love Cecily Strong. As someone who’s been on saturday night live But having also watched it since the first episode hosted by George Carlin, the way I judge the characters on the show is: historically. To me, Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon are geniuses at what they do. I don’t use this word very often. They would be incredible in any show saturday night liveI was sad when Kate McKinnon left and I was sad when Cecily Strong left. She’s brilliant – pure talent and versatility. I don’t know how you can replace it. “well said.
This recap has been beating the drums for a minute, as new blood finally gets a chance to shine at 8. Well here we are.it is SNL recap time!
Rosalind O’Connor/NBC Aubrey Plaza on “Saturday Night Live”
cold open
Introducing the Fox Sports Broadcast Team. This intriguing theme laid the groundwork — and given that the Eagles’ game against the Giants had ended just minutes earlier, it felt like a real postgame game.
Howie Long (Mikey Day) wears glasses, so he’s smart. Michael Strahan is played by Devon Walker (Jay Pharoah played the former Giants star). Terry Bradshaw is played by Molly Kearney. They discuss how dangerous football games are. Judging by the current cast, Lawrence is a fan of Day. There are some technical issues here.
Controversial Congressman George Santos was introduced as a live reporter. Yang Bowen plays Santos. (Oddly enough, the former saturday night live Star Jon Lovitz Just Played Santos tonight show this week. ) who completely interrupts Pam Oliver’s (Ego Nwodim) drag show and claims to have won the award for tightest pleats.
A bit muted and awkward overall, slowly building toward a true premise.
monologue
hosting saturday night live It’s Aubrey Plaza’s dream come true – and yes, she means it! She notes that people often mistake her for being eccentric and sarcastic because of her personality. There were some jokes about her fake family showing up in the audience.
she discusses her work saturday night live Going back in time and offering to go back to her page roots and take viewers on a tour, donning one of those vintage jackets. When she answered the phone from Paul McCartney, she was a “bad page”. Another example was when Kenan Thompson showed up — he ordered a Starbucks from her in 2004 and is still waiting.
Here’s a fun surprise: Amy Poehler pops up on tour!she was last seen in saturday night live Spring 2020. Plaza steals her purse and leaves, then reunites with the old set design team. She asked them to bow before her. Overall, it’s kind of disjointed – as she points out upfront, her character can misdirect where the laughs should be and make it seem like she’s on edge.
Laurance noted: “I think Aubrey Plaza is great, it’s a great choice to host. She’s a really amazing actress. Before white lotus, I am not very familiar with her. When I googled her, I was so amazed at what she did- parks and recreation, and everything else. She’s an amazing actress and here’s why saturday night live It suits her perfectly.People need to see that side again later white lotus. It will be a real surprise.
miss universe contest
miss universe by brady 80The contestants — judging by their looks — screamed their responses. The real game happened last week. Tony Hawk and Property Brothers serve as judges. In fact, the French model became famous for screaming.
Lawrence said of Kenan, who plays host: “What I love most about him is every character he plays, he has that smirk on his face. No one else can do it. He makes every character do it. Up to this point he’s done it, everybody. That’s a real talent.”
Matthew Lawrence is also a huge Heidi Gardner fan – she had a great time here as Miss Belgium rounds up her favorite episodes Nip/Tuck.
black lotus
Here’s a hilarious spoof from the latest season white lotus. The staff don’t have time to listen to anyone’s crap. Don’t dare to take an attitude!
It’s really fun to watch the various characters and melodramatic scenes being spoofed here. I especially enjoyed seeing Sarah Sherman as Haley Lu Richardson. Fans of the series should love this!
“Chloe [Fineman], boy, how is she? When she did Jennifer Coolidge, it was hysterical,” shared Lawrence. Yes, Feynman crushed it. Lawrence wasn’t a big fan of the recent HBO series: “White Lotus,Season one. it’s very funny. I’m not a huge fan of the second season. Apparently, it’s really popular. I feel that the first season was quite funny, but the second season was too depressing! Everything about it I was like, ‘Can we relax here, anyone? It’s listed as a comedy! “
taboo
Mikey Day and Plaza are a new couple who are introduced to the neighborhood by playing a friendly game of taboo. They did a great job – except their responses were very disturbing. She is a sociopath. The night they met, she was on fire. Plaza’s impression of their demented daughter is hilarious. Plaza and Day work well together. It’s a familiar setup, but it has great energy.
