Heritage Health is launching a 13-month graduate residency training program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Heritage Health is currently accepting applications for the program, which will begin this fall.
The program’s mission is to improve the accessibility and quality of health care in the North Idaho community by advancing the education of newly graduated nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
These residents will receive the depth, intensity, and breadth of training needed to support new providers in acquiring competency, clinical and leadership skills, and the confidence to deliver high-quality health care to their communities, said Dr. Leanne Rousseau, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Clinical Resident director.
“We are excited to launch this Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant residency program as it will help to better serve our patients,” Rousseau said. “For recent graduates, this is a great way to advance their careers as they become primary care providers. As a community health center, we see a wide variety of patients who may have complex medical issues, which will enable Our residents and providers are better able to work with and serve our patients and communities.”
The program will include regular primary care classes, specialty rotations, independent clinics with instruction in rural settings, weekly taught sessions, various other educational opportunities, and the opportunity to begin building patient groups.
This year, Heritage Health is offering several residency spots for nurse practitioner/physician assistant residents.
“Healthcare is constantly evolving, and Heritage Health wants to be ahead of the curve,” said Mike Baker, Heritage Health CEO. “We hope that these residents will continue to work with us after completing the program and become the future medical leaders of Heritage Health.”
