HURON – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) President and CEO Erick Larson and HRMC Program Manager Brooke Sydow attended the signing ceremony of the Start Today SD Registered Apprenticeship Program in Pierre to officially launch HRMC’s Healthcare Information Technology ( IT) Apprenticeship Program.

HRMC is one of 12 new registered apprenticeship programs selected and formally approved by the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship at the Start Today SD signing event in Pierre last week.

The Healthcare IT Apprenticeship Program is designed to teach the major disciplines of IT specifically relevant to hospitals. Apprentices will complete four cycles of paid on-the-job training in the Information Systems department, working alongside existing experienced staff. Apprentices in each area will rotate after approximately three months. Participants will spend time learning desktop support, including computer proficiency training and troubleshooting computer issues, network support, including learning HRMC network protocols, maintenance and operation of electronic health records, and learning about reporting, analyzing data, and identifying trends.

HRMC has added Healthcare Information Technology to their apprenticeship program thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) to develop a new registered apprenticeship program.

HRMC has established registered apprenticeship programs in Nursing, Surgical Technologist, Youth Certified Nursing Assistant and Respiratory Therapy. If you are interested in taking an HRMC apprenticeship, please contact Brooke Sydow at 605-461-8364 or [email protected]
