Self-employed small business owner Italia De La Cruz has applied to run in District 6 of the Fort Worth City Council. Including incumbent Jared Williams, who is also officially running for the seat. The deadline for submissions is February 17th.

“Fort Worth needs to prioritize what matters to ordinary citizens,” De la Cruz said in an announcement on Facebook. “Let’s restore quality of life, let’s lower taxes, support small businesses, and limit city government overreach.”

According to her Facebook, Dela Cruz is a small business owner, immigrant and mother.

Ward 6 includes portions of south-central Fort Worth.

Municipal elections are coming up. Here are some key dates:

January 18: Candidates begin submitting applications

February 17: Last day for candidates to submit documents

April 6: Last day to register to vote

    April 24: Early voting begins

    May 2: Early voting closes

    May 6: Election Day

Candidates from all 11 constituencies will compete for a seat in the May 6 dias. Of the nine incumbents, five have applied for re-election.

Districts 10 and 11 will be filled for the first time after City Council approved a redistricting of the map to create the two districts.
