Janelle Monae is relieved that audiences love “Glass Onions.”
The 37-year-old star has been recognized with awards for her work as Helen Brand in the Knives Out sequel, but insists it was an honor to have the opportunity to work on the film.
Janelle told Collider: “No award committee owes me anything. My award already comes with the work itself.
“Every time I think about working with Rian Johnson, I get rewarded. That’s the reward. When I work with Daniel (Craig), Kate (Hudson), Edward (Norton), Leslie (Odom Jr.), Kathryn (Hahn) Working together), Madeleine (Cline), Jessica (Henwick), Dave (Bautista), Noah (Segan), that’s the reward, right?
“Being in this movie is the reward. It touches people. People see the movie twice, three times, four times, and that’s the reward. You know what I mean? You just go with gratitude, you point to what you think Love, you’re talking about this experience that meant so much to you. All of it means so much.”
Janelle revealed how she was very emotional in the film’s final scene, in which her character takes on billionaire Miles Brown (Norton), and thanked her castmates for their support.
She said: “In that moment, everyone was there for me. I felt embarrassed because I was getting emotional, and I remember, they just told me, ‘It’s okay. It’s okay. This is what we’re here for.’
“That’s the moment I remember going home and being like, these are really my friends. Forget acting, forget the characters we had. It’s a human-to-human moment that I’ll always remember.”
