“She was our matriarch, our moral compass, our inspiration, our ‘Lolo’.” She left us on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, leaving us with the uniqueness that only 94 years can provide memories,” the family wrote in her obituary.
The NBA on TNT honored Johnson with photos and memories from Lois’ grandchildren on Thursday night’s show. Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal also expressed their condolences.
Lois Johnson was born in Chicago and later moved to a small town in Vermont. There, she met Ernie Johnson, Sr., who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
The pair raised Ernie Johnson Jr. and his two sisters, Dawn and Chris. Lois was the family’s “rock-solid foundation” throughout her husband’s baseball playing and broadcasting career, according to her obituary. Johnson also served as a tour guide.
“For decades, a magnet on the kitchen refrigerator summed it up best: ‘We broke this marriage to bring you baseball season.'”

Lois’ family also describes her as a two-time cancer fighter and an avid pianist.
“This lady was a miracle and while we will miss her terribly, we also know that she is now reunited with the one she loved. That piano must have sounded wonderful.”
A visitation and funeral will be held in Cumming on Monday. Lois will be buried with her husband at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, the family said.
