According to Sports Illustrated, Lowe got caught up in a massive viral Twitter game this weekend thanks to a tweet sent by the Blue Jays podcast Gate 14.
The tweet was about Blue Jays pitcher Mike White being linked to former Academy Award nominee Robbie, whose most recent film is “Babylon.”
The podcast even cites TMZ as a source. SI did the legwork. According to reports, there were no such tweets.
Naturally, the tweet went viral. Should this be the end? Of course there should be.
but it is not the truth.
Twitter is Twitter, and its use is to turn patently false tweets into a viral game of telephone, connecting Robbie with all kinds of people…and things.
In addition to Lowe, Twitter users also linked Robbie to Reese McGuire of the Boston Red Sox, Wandy Peralta of the New York Yankees, Manuel Margot of the Tampa Bay Rays, Tony Gonsolin of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Yoán Moncada of the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates The team’s Ji-Man Choi linked up with former MLB pitcher Jumbo Díaz.
Twitter also uses two mascots — Gritty of the Philadelphia Flyers and Rascal Renegade of the Hudson Valley Renegades.
Meanwhile, Lowe was honored with the Rangers Player of the Year and his silver slugger award virtually Friday at the team’s annual awards dinner in Arlington. Lowe hit .302/.359/.492/.850 last season with 74 points. He hit 26 doubles, three triples, 27 home runs and 76 runs at bat. He became the first Rangers player to hit .300 or above in six seasons.
And, for the record, Robbie has been married to British director Tom Ackley since 2016.
