Hello AJ Readers!
Between the snowy fun and trying to move up the deadline due to the weather, we got to know a few business openings and deals.
Starting this week, I had the opportunity to interview Emily Foxworth, whose family owns the local HobbyTown. They decided to build their own building, which stands out on 82nd Street. The new space doubles the size and will allow them to offer more inventory and classes.
“To renovate a building in Lubbock, you might as well build your own building and that’s it,” Foxworth said. “We’re building a legacy and want to pass it on to the next generation.”

Velvet Taco released a special “Wreck ’em” game day menu for Red Raider fans this week. Chef and company culinary director Venecia Willis details the new menu and her recommendations.
“We want to connect people to food memories and things that people can relate to,” Willis said. “The creativity behind it was finding something that the college crowd was craving, and it was delicious.”

Habit Burger also commented on their search for a Lubbock franchisee. John Phillips, the company’s Chief Global Business Partnerships Officer, detailed why they are moving into hub cities.
“We’re going to continue to build on both coasts, and it’s time for us to get into the Central and Southwest,” Phillips said. “We think there’s a lot of room for us to grow there (Texas), and we Would love to be a part of the Texas community.”
Buckner Children and Family Services also announced that their Brentwood campus will be up for sale soon. Officials reiterated that their services will not be affected as they will work from the South Loop 289 campus until more office space can be leased.
Other reopenings or openings include The Spud Truck and Java Jet at 66th Street and Indiana Avenue. La Potranca Bar & Grill opened Monday, January 23 at 227 US Highway 87. The grill offers a selection of Mexican favorites, including pork asado and carne guisada.
