At first it was four, then it became three, and finally there was only one. It’s time to say our final goodbyes to art pop rock Panic! At the disco.
Brendon Urie, the only remaining musician from the original band, declared Panic on the band’s Instagram page on Tuesday! The disco “will no longer exist”.
Urie, 35, shared that he and his wife Sarah are pregnant and he plans to focus on family. “The prospect of becoming a father and watching my wife become a mother is both humbling and exciting. I look forward to my next adventure,” he wrote.
The band has 15 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, with two top 10 hits, 2019’s “High Hopes” and 2006’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” They scored two No. 1 albums in 2016 with “Death of a Bachelor” — which was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album — and 2018’s “Pray For Evil.”
“Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just found us, it’s a pleasure not only to share the stage with so many talented people, but also to share our time with you,” Urie wrote.
The band formed in 2004 when Urie and childhood friends guitarist Ryan Ross, drummer Spencer Smith and bassist Brent Wilson were teenagers. Other members include bassist Jon Walker and multi-instrumentalist Dallon Weekes.
Even while carrying the band’s banner on her own later in life, Urie found other creative outlets, like singing with Taylor Swift on “ME!” She made her Broadway debut in 2017 in “Kinky Boots” and went on to write music for the show “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
