PatanAs one of the most anticipated Hindi films of the year, the box office is set to shine thanks to the film’s pre-sales. It seems Shah Rukh Khan fans are unfazed by the controversy surrounding the film and made sure to see their favorite stars on the big screen on day one.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Hindi and Telugu versions of Pathaan were the top sellers, taking the film to a total of Rs 146.6 crore. Of the Rs 14.66 crore, Rs 1.79 crore came from the NCR region and Rs 1.74 crore came from Mumbai. Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata were also major contributors to the pre-sales figures. According to Bollywood Hungama, Pathaan grossed around Rs 40 crore on its first day, second only to Shah Rukh’s top-grossing debut, Happy New Year.
Last year, Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra was pre-sold at Rs 19.66. The third biggest Bollywood blockbuster of 2022, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, earned Rs 6.55 through early bookings, with Laal Singh Chaddha earning Rs 5.52. Pathaan had six days left to catch Brahmastra.
The film marks Shah Rukh’s return to a starring role after more than four years. Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, is a spy thriller that also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in key roles.
On Friday, Ashish Saksena, chief operating officer of BookMyShow Cinemas, shared that the action-thriller had pre-sold 400,000 tickets on the online ticketing platform in less than 36 hours after its launch. He said: “The response across India has been very good with Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Pune, Lucknow and Chennai leading the way in terms of ticket sales. South India Particularly impressive, with the upward trajectory of Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru contributing 26% of total pre-sales so far. With more screens set to open for pre-sales over the weekend, we believe Patan will take the box office by storm. “
The film is scheduled to be released on January 25.
