Motherwell manager Steven Hamel expects Matt Penney’s future at the club to become clearer on Monday.
The full-back has been at Fir Park on loan from League One club Ipswich Town since the start of the season.
Negotiations over the 24-year-old are set to take place at the weekend.
“We’re still discussing it with him and that will be announced on Monday,” Hamel said. “There still needs to be some dialogue with them about him.”
Hamel revealed that Motherwell is considering bringing in more new players before the end of the transfer window.
“We do still need to do some business on the competition,” he added.
“The new signings can give us good leverage and good competition across the group.”
