A Fox News political commentator was allegedly kicked out of a North Miami bookstore and restaurant for talking about politics.
Paradis Books and Bread has been closed for some time following the incident with analyst Gianno Caldwell.
The situation has drawn widespread attention on social media.
Caldwell tweeted after the incident that he couldn’t believe it happened.
Twitter: I can’t believe what just happened. I was having breakfast with friends at Paradis Books and Bread in North Miami, and when we were discussing politics, the owner told us we weren’t welcome there because we didn’t agree politically. Outrageous.
He also sent the following statement to NBC 6:
In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” My experience at Paradis Books and Bread in North Miami was a clear case of discrimination, not in Florida or the U.S. It should not be tolerated anywhere. Nobody, liberal or conservative, should be asked to leave the premises to engage in a respectful political conversation. Paradis is advocating a political segregation that dates back to the days of the Jim Crow South and runs counter to the restaurant’s harm reduction policies.
The restaurant is located on the West Dixie Highway near NE 128day street.
On Sunday, the business was closed and they posted on Instagram that they were starting winter break early instead of January 29thday.
They also posted a caption that read in part: “A group of people came in, ordered food, sat in a corner inside, and talked loudly for over an hour. A lot of what they discussed was very disturbing, especially after the Degrading way to talk about women, and use eugenics around their idea of Roe v. Wade. Their actions and words make others in the space, and one of us, very uncomfortable. Make sure they finish their meal Finally, we tell them that we don’t agree and that the language they use isn’t welcome in our space. Someone in the group says “that’s your business model and I respect it” As a space co-owned by blacks and women, We firmly adhere to our zero tolerance policy”
We reached out to the company for an interview but have not heard back.Caldwell says he won’t be interviewed because he only works for Fox News
