The University of Chicago’s Institute of Political Science will mark its 10th anniversary on January 20 with an event hosted by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
IOP founding director David Axelrod will sit down with Blinken to discuss the Biden administration’s foreign policy approach. The event will take place at the Rubinstein Forum at 3:15 p.m. Register here to attend.
A former deputy national security adviser to President Barack Obama, Blinken has been at the center of foreign policy issues facing the Biden administration. From human rights and the war in Ukraine to rivalry with China and building alliances to address persistent food insecurity and climate change crises, Blinken has used diplomacy as a tool to address many of the challenges facing the world.
Also at the event, the new IOP Director Heidi Heitkamp Various avenues for making a difference will be discussed with UChicago alumni.She will speak with Abdul Dosunmu, AB’13, founder and chief strategist, Alliance of Young Black Lawyers Organizations; Erin Simpson, AB’15, technology and society program officer, Ford Foundation; and Maira Khwaja, AB’16, public strategy at the Invisible Institute Director; Dylan Wells, AB’19, campaign reporter Washington post and Devshi Mehrotra, AB’19, co-founder and CEO of JusticeText.
Since its inception in January 2013, the Institute has hosted more than 2,000 speakers, hosted more than 175 Pritzker Fellows as part of its resident and visiting fellow program, supported more than 25,000 student placements worldwide, And helped nearly 1,500 students participate in civic engagement projects.
IOP speakers include Obama, former Vice President Mike Pence, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, U.S. Senator Mitte Romney and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.
