Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has challenged Union Minister Amit Shah to prove his family looted government funds. He was speaking at a media conference during the city’s “Pancharatna Yatre” on Monday.
Kumaraswamy recalled Shah’s comments, made during the BJP ‘Janasankalpa Yatre’ in Mandya last Friday. The Shah had said that if the people voted for Congress or the JD(S) to govern in Karnataka, the state would become an ATM for the winning party, with the respective party at the helm at the expense of the people’s well-being.
“Shah can’t even match the nails of my father and former PM HD Deve Gowda. The BJP government in Karnataka is getting corrupted. But Shah is speaking about JD(S). He said BJP will not join JD (S)’s truck. What made him say that? Did I go to his door to offer Union? Have we approached BJP? We never went to anyone’s door. They are the ones who came to us. Both Ethnic parties are failing the people of Karnataka. Hence, we are holding ‘Pancharatna Yatre’. Why should Shah’s son be the chairman (secretary) of BCCI? he said.
“Even if Shah comes to Mandya dozens or hundreds of times, nothing will happen. What is his contribution to Mandya? Let him come for a public debate on this issue,” Coomaraswamy challenged.
He said the second list of JD(S) candidates for the upcoming Legislative Assembly polls would be announced after the Sankranthi festival in mid-January.
“About several constituencies, I am discussing with seniors and will finalize the candidates as soon as possible. I will hold Pancharatna Yatre until March 20,” he added.
