HUNTINGTON – On Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m., the Purdue University Men’s Varsity Choir will perform a 90-minute concert at Huntington University’s Merillat Center for the Arts.
Purdue Varsity Glee Club members have served as Purdue University ambassadors for over 125 years. Founded in 1893, the ensemble has performed at campus, community, state, national and international events, including six U.S. presidential inaugurations, an interview with Queen Elizabeth II, The Tonight Show and The Ed Sullivan Show, and at Carnegie Music Hall and Radio City Music Hall.
Choir members represent diverse backgrounds and hometowns in Indiana and around the world, maintaining a high level of academic excellence, with specialties ranging from engineering to education to agriculture to biological sciences. One of the members includes Whitley County’s own Sam Rickerd, a former Whitcomb student (Class of 2019) and now the student manager for the choir.
This musical troupe of 68 young adults employs a versatile repertoire that includes gospel, vocal jazz, traditional hymns, swing, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, classical choral excerpts, barbershop, folk melodies, patriotic standards, familiar Opera choral, country and novelty tunes, and utilize groups and soloists to further enhance each program.
Tickets can be purchased online through the Huntington University Box Office. Tickets are $5 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
