SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Rescuers in California have found a lost 75-year-old hiker on the same snowy mountain where actor Julian Sands went missing.
NBC Los Angeles filmed North Hollywood’s Jin Chung being loaded into an ambulance Tuesday afternoon. His condition is unclear.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department launched a search after Chung didn’t return Sunday after hiking the 10,064-foot (3,068-meter) Mount Baldi.
Chung and two others carpooled up the mountain and planned to meet them in the car at 2 p.m., but Chung did not show up, authorities said.
Rescuers continued to search for Sands on Mount Baldy over the weekend without success, the sheriff’s department said.
“Helicopters and drones continued to use infrared equipment during the search, but neither found any signs of sands,” the department’s statement said.
Sands, 65, was reported missing on Jan. 13 while hiking. Rescuers began looking for him on the San Gabriel Mountains’ highest peak, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
The storm blanketed the mountains with snow and ice, and searches were hampered by the threat of avalanches and severe weather, including strong winds.
Authorities described conditions in the mountains as extremely dangerous. Two hikers have died in recent weeks. One fell from an ice slope of at least 500 feet (152 meters).
Sands starred opposite Helena Bonham Carter in James Avery’s 1985 British romance A Room with a View.
He also featured in “Warlock” in 1989, “Arachnophobia” in 1990, “Naked Lunch” in 1991, “Punching Helena” in 1993 and “Leaving Las Vegas” in 1995. Role.
For decades, Sands has had smaller roles in film and television.
