South Georgia Medical Center named its risk management department a Health System Hero at its monthly board meeting. Susan Hurley, April Sharp, Cheri Davis and Candice McRee were recognized for their critical roles in the health system.
Risk management helps identify potential risks to hospitals, patients and staff. This could include medical errors, natural disasters, data breaches and equipment failures, among others.
The unit helps SGMC improve patient outcomes, increase trust and confidence in the healthcare system, and reduce costs by identifying and addressing potential legal and financial risks before they occur.
Director of Risk Management Susan Hurley has been with SGMC for over 30 years. According to the nomination, she is passionate about her work, often working long hours on weekends.
According to Chuck Marshburn, Chief Information Officer at SGMC, Risk Management is a true team player, always willing to lend a helping hand to their colleagues.
“They have been great advocates for our patients and their families, always making sure their voices are heard and their needs are met,” he shared.
The winners received a standing ovation from those present.
