Taylor Swift has released a (very lavender) video for the song “Lavender Haze” from her new album.
Swift’s latest video debuted Friday, a day after she teased a new project to her followers on social media.
The psychedelic video shows Swift looking sad in her bedroom until she’s caught in a lavender haze surrounded by flowers and a purple aura. She shared that the song is about her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn and wanting to be in a space where outside noise doesn’t come in.
“I stumbled across the word ‘lavender haze’ while watching Mad Men, I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool, and it turned out it was a common word from the 50’s where they just described themselves in love ,” she explained on social media when the song was released. “If you’re in the lavender mist, it means you’re in the light of that all-encompassing love. I think that’s really beautiful.”
Swift continued: “I think, theoretically, when you’re in a lavender haze, you do everything you can to stay there rather than have people pull you out of that cloud. I Think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just “public figures” because we live in the age of social media and if the world finds out you’re in love with someone, they get involved. Like my six year relationship Same, we have dodged weird rumors, tabloid stuff, we just ignore it. This song is kind of an act of ignoring that stuff in order to protect the real thing.”
Swift also wrote and directed the video, as she did for “Midnight”‘s other track videos, such as “Bejeweled” and “Anti-Hero.”
