Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper may not have his own head coach yet, but he does have a career.
On Tuesday, Forbes.com (courtesy of staff Mike Ozanian and Justin Teitelbaum) released its list of the 25 most valuable “sports empires” in the world in 2023. These empires have a combined value of $173 billion and are influenced by multiple sports and media organizations – which can include teams (of course), broadcast platforms, sponsorships, mixed-use real estate and sports-based technology.

Coming in at number 19 is Tepper & Sports Entertainment. Strip out the strength of the Panthers and Charlotte FC, and Tepper’s empire is worth $4.55 billion.
Tepper, whose net worth is $16.7 billion on the 2022 Forbes Global Billionaires list, bought the Panthers in 2018 for a then-NFL-record $2.275 billion. As of August, they were worth $3.6 billion.
The former hedge fund mogul then founded Charlotte FC in December 2019. As of September, his team was worth $570 million — nearly double what they were worth in their first season.
Now, we’ll soon find out who’s willing to take some of Tepper’s money to lead his valuable investment.
