TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – The Topeka Zoo is monitoring the health of Hoho the sun bear, believed to be the second largest bear in North America.
On Monday, Jan. 2, the Topeka Zoo notified capital residents on Facebook that it was monitoring the health of Hoho, an elderly sun bear.
“As we turn our calendars to the new year, we are unfortunately reminded that father time has caught up with us all,” a zoo spokesman said.
Born in 1989, Hoho is believed to be the second largest sun bear in North America after his twin brother who was born an hour earlier.
Hoho came to the capital in 2018 and has been a visitor favorite since then, the zoo noted. He is known for sticking his tongue out and showing his “best side” to guests.
Zoo staff said they will keep the public updated as they continue to test and monitor Hoho, and they thank the public for their encouragement.
