“No man is an island in itself; each man is part of the continent, part of the continent. If a clod is washed away by the sea, Europe is diminished, as a cape is washed away, as your friend or As if your own estate had been washed away: the death of any man is a loss to me, for I am connected with humanity, so never send a man to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for you. —John Donne

One of the many reasons I love working for this paper is the deep and ongoing connection it has with this community.

Alpena News isn’t just something that shows up at your door every morning for you to read and forget until the next morning.

We have deep roots in Northeast Michigan.

Not only do we cover local events, we donate to local causes. We not only sell ads to local businesses, but also buy goods and services from local businesses. We don’t just cover the local economy, we contribute to it and employ Northeast Michiganders.

We host events that bring the community together.

One such event is taking place a week from today: a popular business expo and a newspaper educational book sale.

We hosted our last Expo in February 2020, just before the coronavirus pandemic shut everything down. The pandemic has forced us to cancel our 2021 and 2022 events.

But we’re back again with a great event at the APlex at 701 Woodward Ave in Alpena from 10am to 4pm on February 4th.

We have over two dozen vendors on hand to chat with you about everything they have to offer, including the ever-popular Pour Boy’s Honey, which will be tasting and selling their delicacies.

    Bring your purse and purse.

Galley Sweet Shop will be selling its popular Cops and Donuts in the morning and Nowicki’s Sausage Shoppe will be selling lunch items.

Expos benefit suppliers by having hundreds of simultaneous audiences with whom they can talk about their products. It benefits you by bringing some of Northeast Michigan’s best businesses together in one place so you can learn about everything from banking to travel to restaurants.

Near the Expo, you’ll find thousands of used books for sale at discounted prices. best seller. romantic. Westerns. Historical fiction and non-fiction. help yourself. poetry. politics. Books about Northeast Michigan and Michigan in general. Hobby. there are more.

100% of the proceeds we earn from every book sold go to Newspapers in Education, which helps us deliver newspapers to classrooms throughout Northeast Michigan. Children use newspapers to learn literacy, understand the difference between fact and opinion, learn about the weather, and more.

The best books sell fast, so come early to pick up what you want.

The event also offers giveaways throughout the day. You have to be there to win.

In short, February 4th is going to be a busy business and book browsing day that you don’t want to miss.

I am very happy to host the Expo again. Having to cancel it two years in a row really frustrates me.

It took a lot of hard work to get this done, including sorting through thousands of donated books.

But it was worth it because the event was a blast for us as hosts, for the business and for the attendees.

We are still contracting suppliers. If you would like to display your business at the Expo, please call 989-354-3111 to speak with your advertising consultant.
