Canadian Royal Winnipeg School of Ballet Professional DivisionFollowing the ballet’s November performance of “The Nutcracker” at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Mondays 2:45-4:15 pm for students in grades 8 and up and 4:30-6 pm at the center’s Adults-only Starr Theater at 495 W. Dickson St.; register at bit.ly/RWBMasterclass. (Participants can also register in person an hour before each class begins.)
The Ballet School also holds auditions on January 24th for students entering 6th grade and above in September: 4:00 pm for grades 5-7 and 5:45 pm for grades 8 and above. The company is looking for dancers to join one of three full-time programs: Ballet Academy, Anna McCowan-Johnson Aspirant and Teacher Training Program. Applicants audition as a group and are evaluated on the basis of talent, aptitude for classical dance, flexibility, coordination, musicality and artistry of movement, and demonstrated enthusiasm for dance. Students identified as having potential for professional training will be invited to attend a summer session in Winnipeg in July as a second step in the audition process.
Audition fee is $50; register at rwb.org/audition. Take a photo of yourself facing forward showing a tendu in second position with arms in second position; wear a bodysuit (bodysuit), tights and soft shoes (pointe shoes not required) ;Students who do not have ballet shoes and/or leotards and/or leotards may wear socks and tights so they can move.; Long hair needs to be pulled into a bun if possible, or at least not cover the face.

Stephen Markley A discussion of his book “The Flood” will be held on February 2 at 6:30 p.m., the first of two virtual book discussions in the Arkansas Central Library System’s “Six Bridges Presents” series. “Flood” paints a picture of a potential near-term collapse, starting with death threats to scientists studying methane deposits on the seafloor. On March 2 at 6:30 pm, Benjamin L. Carp will discuss his book, The Great Fire of 1776: The Lost Story of the American Revolution.
