Next year’s Copa America will be held in the United States and will feature six CONCACAF teams.
CONMEBOL, the South American football federation, said on Friday that its 10 national teams will play outside the region after striking an agreement with federations in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
The six guests for the 2024 Copa America will determine their place based on their performances in the next CONCACAF regional league.
In a statement, CONMEBOL said the competition will take place during the northern hemisphere summer.
The agreement also includes the participation of four CONMEBOL women’s teams in the CONCACAF Championship, as well as the creation of a new club competition.
Ecuador has decided not to host the 2024 Copa America due to public safety concerns.
The United States, Mexico and Canada will co-host the Men’s World Cup in 2026.
Argentina is the defending champion of the Copa America and World Cup.
The Associated Press reported.
